#PBCritiqueFest Contest

Twitter contests to win picture book critiques are all the rage. But what if you didn't actually have to write anything to enter? What if you could simply fill out a registration form and BOOM! you're entered. That's all you have to do to participate in author Brian Gehrlein's #PBCRITIQUEFEST. Brian can be reached on Twitter @BrianGehrlein.

You then have the option of securing extra entries by doing a host of simple things like following participating authors or agents. You choose how much or how little you want to do. Easy peasy!

THE CAT AND THE SPACE HEATER: A LOVE STORY- 207 words

Cat had experienced love more than once in her nine lives.

The first time she tried catnip.

Whenever The Lady brought her string.

At every laser show she’d attended.

Yet Cat wasn’t prepared for Space Heater, a love that would strike FULL blast.

Heater was inviting. Heartwarming. Purrfect.

The two spent sunny days and glowing nights together…

…Until February 14, when Dog took an interest in Heater.

Jealousy struck Cat harder than she could strike a scratch post.

She cried.

She yowled.

And she threw a hissy-fit.

Then she vowed to win back her true love.

Cat stalked into the living room, ears flat. She spat.

Dog drooled.

He doesn’t think I’m fur real. Cat arched her back to show she meant business.

Dog rolled over.

Cat unleashed her claws. Time to bring the heat! 

She pounced onto the carpet, ready to swat.

Dog jumped to his feet, teeth bared.

Cat went stiff.

Her whiskers shook.

But she forced herself to meet his eyes.

Dog was…smiling?

He stepped aside.

Cat’s jaw dropped.

There, covered in catnip, strewn with string, and lit with lasers, was a heart-shaped message:

Paw-lease Be My Valentine?

Cat, Dog, and Heater spent sunny days and glowing nights together.

Warm and fuzzy friends fur-ever.
